Electron-impact excitation cross-sections for high-lying even levels of the dysprosium atom

Abstract: The method of extended crossing beams has been used to study electron-impact excitation of the dysprosium atom energy levels that belong to the 4f 10 6s7s configuration. Ninety-one excitation cross sections have been measured at incident electron energy of 30 eV. Cross-section measured are within the range of 10-18 to 10-19 cm 2 in most cases. Spontaneous emission rises as a result of both allowed and forbidden transitions from the excited levels covered in the study.
