“…B 2 O 3 is a typical acidic oxide, and, furthermore, it is known that B 2 O 3 forms glasses with other basic oxides such as BaO, La 2 O 3 , and Bi 2 O 3 . Taki et al confirmed a linear relationship between ∧( n o ) and A ( n o ) in various binary B 2 O 3 ‐based glasses as shown in Figure . The data for Na 2 O‐SiO 2 , Na 2 O‐GeO 2 , and Na 2 O‐TeO 2 glasses shown in Table are added in Figure , lying in a linear relationship observed in binary B 2 O 3 ‐based glasses.…”

“…In contrast, the low value of A ( n o ) = 0.034 Å −3 for TeO 2 oxide suggests weak chemical bond strengths in Te‐O‐Te bonds, that is, a small overlap (ionic character) between O2p and Te valence orbitals. A good linear correlation between refractive index‐based optical basicity and interionic interaction parameter has been demonstrated in glasses . That is, glasses with large ∧( n o ) values show small A ( n o ) values.…”
