Electronic spectroscopy and energy transfer pathways of matrix isolated iodine

Abstract: Articles you may be interested inA simple but accurate potential for the naphthalene-argon complex: Applications to collisional energy transfer and matrix isolated IR spectroscopy Visible laser excitation (460-725 nm) of dilute rare gas/12 (2000: 1) matrices resulted in emission from the lzA 3TI ( 1 u ) state. Reanalysis of the A.-X spectra provided revised molecular constants for matrix isolated 1 2 , A state lifetimes of 70 ± 20, 80 ± 20, and 110 ± 30 f.Ls were observed in Ar, Kr, and Xe hosts, respectively.… Show more

“…Roughly, the dispersion forces for water molecules will be similar to those of argon, and thus, the clathrate cage environment might be similar to that of an argon matrix (or other rare gas matrices), for which iodine spectra have been extensively analyzed. [27][28][29] However, in rare gas matrices, the shift of the iodine absorption band does not exceed 200 cm -1 . Thus, as simple dispersion interactions alone are unlikely to account for the observed clathrate spectra, stronger perturbations are needed.…”

“…As observed in Ref. 16, transport of I 2 diluted by N 2 in a copper tubing results in production of I atoms due to surface catalyzed I 2 predissociation. The I 2 dissociation fraction observed in Ref.…”

“…The I 2 dissociation fraction observed in Ref. 16 is estimated to be ~ 0.1%. 31 We checked if the small number of I atoms produced by the predissociation in the copper pipes used to transport the I 2 /N 2 flow to the injection location may result in the acceleration of the I 2 dissociation in the COIL so that g at the optical axis could reach the experimental values.…”

“…X( 1 P þ g ) emission frequency (local difference potential value) is determined. The chosen parameters are those that match the experimental emission peak [35]. Implicit in this determination is the assumption that the I-Ar interactions are identical for I 2 in its A( 3 Å 1u ) and B( 3 Å þ 0u ) electronic states.…”
