“…In the band calculation for Sr 6 C 60 and Ba 6 C 60 21 which have the same bcc crystal structure and the same valence state as Eu 6 C 60 , the hybridization of the d orbital of metal atom and the t 1g orbital of C 60 exists and make the compounds metallic. This fact is confirmed experimentally 22 . The hybridization is more significant in Sr 6 C 60 than Ba 6 C 60 due to the smaller lattice constant of Sr 6 C 60 .…”

“…The calculated N(0) is 4.3 states per eV, 21 and an experimental value of 5.6 eV Ϫ1 was reported for Ba 6 C 60 . 24 The averaged linewidths and the overall coupling constants for each mode and for all H g modes for Ba 4 C 60 are listed in Table II, together with the frequencies for the pure C 60 . The averaged linewidths are directly evaluated from the linewidths listed in Table I.…”

“…Early work established their structures correctly as bcc (space group Im % 3) but proposed they were superconducting with T c ¼ 4 K for Sr 6 C 60 and 6:5 K for Ba 6 C 60 (47). Subsequently, it was unambiguously established that both Sr 6 C 60 and Ba 6 C 60 are metallic despite the formally full t 1g -derived band, but not superconducting (48). The Nðe F Þ values of 5.6 and 9.5 states eV À1 (mol C 60 Þ À1 for Ba 6 C 60 and Sr 6 C 60 ; respectively, increase as the interfullerene separation decreases, a tendency opposite to that exhibited by the metallic alkali fullerides.…”
