“…This assumption is confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which shows the appearance of a narrow band near the Fermi level in the intercalated compounds with M = Cr, Co [12] in comparison with the parent compound TiSe 2 . Such a band is formed by 3d orbitals of inserted M-atoms, which are hybridized with Ti 3d and Se 4p orbitals.…”

“…Such a band is formed by 3d orbitals of inserted M-atoms, which are hybridized with Ti 3d and Se 4p orbitals. It should be noted that the calculations of the energy band structure and the photoemission spectroscopy of analogous systems M x TiS 2 have revealed a strong hybridization of M 3d-states with Ti 3d-and S 3p-states [9,12]. At the first gaze, the conclusion about an increase of the DOS value at the Fermi level at the intercalation of TiSe 2 by 3d-transition metals contradicts with experimental data on the conductivity of M x TiSe 2 (where M = Cr, Fe, Co), which show a drastic fall of σ (about of one order [8]) with increasing M-content especially in a low concentration range [8], whereas the additional s-and d-electrons are put into the matrix with inserted M-atoms.…”

“…The synthesis and characterization of samples are discussed in details in Ref. 8. The applied heat treatment allowed to prevent the ordering of intercalant in all samples with the exception of Cr 1/2 TiTe 2 where a superstructure a 0 ϫ a 0 ͱ 3 ϫ 2c 0 has been observed, that corresponds to the lowering of the space group symmetry from P3m1 to I2/m.…”

“…In Cu 0.58 TiSe 2 , Cu XAS have a shape typical to the metallic copper and Cu atoms are in covalent bond with TiSe 2 . In the crystals Cr 0.1 TiSe 2 and "CrSe 2 ," the exchange magnetic splitting of Cr 2p 3/2 lines observed 13,19 is caused by the exchange magnetic interaction between the spin-polarized 3d electrons of chromium with a core 2p vacancy.…”
