“…The positive Weiss constant is consistent with dominant ferromagnetic interactions (from both the Mn 4+ -Ni 2+ exchange favored by the partial Mn/Ni site order revealed in the low-temperature incommensurate structure and also ferromagnetic Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ interactions seen in several charge-ordered (overall antiferromagnetic) manganates, e.g. the CE antiferromagnetic structures of La 1/2 Ca 1/2 MnO 3 92 and Pr 1/2 Ca 1/2 MnO 3, among others 94 ). Ferromagnetic order is frustrated by the positional disorder resulting from the mismatch between the cation composition and the structure, and from the competing antiferromagnetic (e.g., Ni 2+ -Ni 2+ ) exchange interactions that are thus produced, resulting in the observed spinglass-like behavior.…”

“…Between 200 and 300 K the data were fitted by the simple Curie-Weiss law (θ ) 84.1(4) K; C ) 4. 94(1) emu K/mol). These values are considerably higher than the expected values of C ) 3.92 emu/mol and µ eff ) 5.60 µ B /mol which are based on Mn 4+ /Mn 3+ /Ni 2+ in the ratio 33%, 33%, 33%, suggested by the composition.…”
