Electrospinning of polyhydroxyalkanoate fibrous scaffolds: effects on electrospinning parameters on structure and properties

Abstract: In this study, electrospinning was used to prepare ultrafine fibers from PHAs with different chemical compositions: P(3HB) and copolymers: P(3HB-co-4HB), P(3HB-co-3HV), and P(3HB-co-3HHx). The main process parameters that influence ultrafine fiber diameter and properties (polymer concentration, solution feeding rate, working distance, and applied voltage) have been investigated and their effects evaluated. The study revealed electrospinning parameters for the production of high-quality ultrafine fibers and det… Show more

“…The deposition distance is a well-known parameter in conventional ES process4041. When the collector speed, flow rate, applied voltage and PCL/PVP solution concentration were fixed at 80 mm/s, 0.4 mL/h, 2.0 kV and 25 w/v %, respectively, an increased working distance impacted fiber resolution.…”

“…Growth of human keratinocyte cell line HaCat on the nanofiber PHA matrices showed an enhanced improvement over those on PHA matrices prepared via an ordinary solution casting method [27]. None of the fibrous scaffolds produced by electrospinning from PHAs had any adverse effects on attachment, growth, and viability of NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblast cells, and all of them were found to be suitable for tissue engineering applications [28].…”

“…Overall, the prototype of PDT-chemo stent has demonstrated the proof of concept of localized combination therapy for cholangiocarcinoma. Based on the theory, the drug-releasing rate could be further regulated by changing the initial electrospraying blend polymer solution, concentration, structure and type of fibers and the amount of additives for the clinical needs [34, 35]. …”
