“…Despite its high affinity to electrolyte, PVDF separators generally have an intrinsically low tensile strength and thermal stability. On one hand, the low thermal stability of PVDF can be used for the creation of tri‐layer separators with thermal shut‐down function (Table entry 21) . On the other hand, PVDF can be composited with other materials to yield separators with high stability.…”

“…[47] Despite its high affinity to electrolyte, PVDF separators generally have an intrinsically low tensile strength and thermals tability.O no ne hand, the low thermal stabilityo f PVDF can be used for the creation of tri-layer separators with thermals hut-down function (Table 1e ntry 21). [48] On the other hand, PVDF can be composited with other materials to yield separators with highs tability. Poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA), which shows both excellentm echanicalp roperty and thermals tabilityo wing to the presence of benzene-amide chainsi nt he molecule, was used to constructatri-layer PVDF/ PMIA/PVDF separator.…”

“…Moreover, the separator exhibits 0% shrinkage at 135 °C and meltdown temperature reaches to 252 °C which is higher than the shutdown temperature of conventionally used separators, as shown in Figure b,c. Wu et al developed a trilayer PI/PVDF/PI separator with thermal shutdown function through electrospinning for LIBs. Owing to the high thermal stability, the top and bottom layers are composed of PI, whereas the middle layer is composed of PVDF.…”

“…The PI/PVDF/PI separator exhibits superior electrochemical performances, high electrolyte uptake (476%), and ionic conductivity (3.46 mS cm −1 ) as compared to conventionally used multilayer polyolefin separators. By implementing a similar concept as used by Wu et al, Li et al developed the trilayer separator from amino functionalized poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) as outer layers and PMMA as an intermediate layer through electrospinning technique for LIBs. The PEEK/PMMA/PEEK separator owns high thermal stability with 0% shrinkage at 150 °C and high thermal shutdown window from 100 to 270 °C.…”
