Electrospun NiCu Nanoalloy Decorated on Carbon Nanofibers as Chemical Stable Electrocatalyst for Methanol Oxidation

Abstract: NiCu-carbon nanofibers (CNFs) composite was introduced as electrocatalyst for methanol oxidation. Nanofibers (NFs) were synthesized by calcination of electrospun nanofiber mats composed of nickel (II) acetate tetrahydrate, Copper (II) acetate monohydrate, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in the argon/hydrogen atmosphere at 700 • C for 2 hr. The introduced NFs showed a very good ectrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation as compared tothat of Ni nanoparticles (NPs) and NiCNFs. As the current densities ∼110 mA/Cm… Show more

“…Furthermore, a peak can be observed at 2θ ~26°, representing an experimental d spacing of 3.37, which confirmed the presence of graphite-like carbon (d (002), PDF#; 41-1487). According to our previous studies, Ni NPs and its alloys have vital roles in the catalytic transformation of polymer NFs into graphite-like carbon during the calcination process [2,46,48,49]. These results suggested a successful formation of Cr 2 Ni 3 alloy NPs@CNFs.…”

“…In addition, the adsorption of fuel increases over the surface of the catalyst due to presence of the carbon layer. 99 A bimetallic catalyst of Pt@Ni supported on CNFs has been developed, where the porous Ni/CNF has been synthesized via electrospinning, followed by carbonization process. 100 The presence of This article is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported Licence.…”

“…Typically, the large axial ratio of carbon nanofibers results in the elimination of the interfacial resistance that appears among particles in other morphologies [28] . The simplicity, high yield, low cost and applicability to different kinds of materials make electrospinning the most widely used nanofiber synthesis process in both industry and research [29] , [30] , [31] .…”
