Abstract:Fundamental differences between materials originate from the unique nature of their constituent chemical elements. Before specific differences emerge according to the precise ratios of elements (the composition) in a given crystal structure (a phase), a material can be represented by its phase field defined simply as the set of the constituent chemical elements. By working at the level of the periodic table, classification of materials at the level of their phase fields reduces the combinatorial complexity to … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
