The environment plays an important role in shaping the living conditions of local communities, and the state of the environment determines the opportunities for achieving the goals of sustainable development. The purpose of the article is to provide further development of the conceptual foundations of the mechanism of management of enterprise interaction with environment. The authors formed an approach to structuring the mechanism of management of enterprise interaction with environment, considering economic, environmental, and adaptive components. For practical approbation of individual components of the proposed mechanism in a part of the instrumental block the ways of decreasing the negative impact of the enterprise on level of pollution of the atmosphere as of a component of environment were considered. The constructed correlation and regression model for determining the impact of individual pollutant emissions on the overall state of air pollution formed a basis for identification of two most significant types of emissions (carbon monoxide emissions and emissions of non-methane volatile organic compounds). Based on the analysis of ME “Zhytomyrvodokanal” data, whose activities are related to the waste generation and management and which, at the same time, provides environmental services, the measures were proposed to decrease the corresponding emissions from the enterprise activities.

The first purpose of the research was to assess the dependence between the organisational decision-makers willingness to implement systemic solutions relevant to insurance (RSSs) and the attributes (systemic, awareness-related and organisational) of an organisation managed in accordance with ISO 14001. Another purpose was to identify the motivators that drive entities to implement additional system elements.Earlier studies suggest that the structures of currently implemented ISO 14001 EMSs should be modified in order to increase their utility for the process of insurance provision. The research problem was solved based on data obtained through an online survey among organisations implementing and certified ISO 14001 EMSs in Poland. Depending on the type of variables, the independence chi-square test, U-Mann-Whitney test, and the test of Spearman’s rank correlation, among others, were used for analysis. The results of the study may help build integrated environmental risk management tools. They indicate the legitimacy of using non-insurance motivators (e.g. reduction of environmental fees) to achieve the desired EMS structure in the organisation from the insurers' point of view. At the same time, they emphasise the need to build environmental risk awareness (including, among other things, the risk of liability for environmental damage and its severity) to achieve the above.

Integration of environmental insurance and environmental management systems according to ISO 14001 – a research report. The article is a summary of research on the actual and potential integration of environmental insurance and ISO 14001 environmental management systems (EMSs) in Poland. The aim of the research is to analyze the relationship of the above-mentioned instruments of environmental risk management and to identify the factors determining the propensity of enterprises to implement such elements of the system that will increase the usefulness of ISO 14001 standards for insurance purposes in the future. The data for the study were obtained through an asynchronous group interview conducted on the Bulletin Board platform among insurance sector experts and through a survey of organizations that implemented the ISO 14001 system in Poland. Template analysis of qualitative data, supported by narrative techniques and statistical analysis based on the chi-square test of independence, U Mann–Whitney test, Kruskal–Wallis test, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient were used to interpret the data. Environmental management systems according to ISO 14001 are not, in their current form, used in the process of providing insurance cover for environmental risk. Organizations managed according to ISO 14001 rarely design and implement solutions useful to insurers. The latter, however, are statistically significantly correlated with the awareness attributes of the organization. Awareness attributes were also strongly related with the variables describing the propensity to implement additional – useful for insurance purposes – EMSs elements. The strongest motivators for the above, however, were of a non-insurance nature (e.g. obtaining tax credit).
