“…The prospective inverse correlation between baseline 8-OHdG and HOMA-β at the 3-year follow-up suggests that oxidative DNA damage might participate in β-cell dysfunction, which is consistent with a previous finding of pancreatic β-cells being particularly vulnerable to oxidative damage [37]. The levels of 8-OHdG, a well-known biomarker of DNA oxidation [38], were demonstrated to be elevated in prediabetes and in patients with T2D in numerous previous retrospective studies [39,40]. Unexpectedly, we found a modest inverse correlation between baseline 8-OHdG and PG120min at the 3-year follow-up, suggesting that elevated 8-OHdG might predict or contribute to decreased postload plasma glucose, which seemingly contradicts the previous findings.…”

“…However, in our study this marker was found to be significantly decreased in serum in both DM and No-DM patients in inverse relation to published reports where they found increased levels in urine [18]. Kant et al mentioned that when lipid peroxidation products were elevated in the prediabetic stage, the determination of this marker is useful in the detection of patients at risk of type 2 DM [28]. In this study, the 8-IP in residual urine was not measured.…”

“…High level of DNA oxidation, measured as urinary excretion of 8oxodG, is predictive for the risk of breast and lung cancer, atherosclerosis, and diabetes [176179]. RNA oxidation, measured as 7,8-dihydroxy-8-oxoguanosine (8oxoGuo), has been recently introduced as a marker of diseases, particularly neurodegeneration and diabetes, and high level of RNA oxidation has been also associated with breast cancer development in diabetic females [180].…”
