Elliptic flow from two- and four-particle correlations in Au+Au collisions atsNN=130GeV

Abstract: Elliptic flow holds much promise for studying the early-time thermalization attained in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions. Flow measurements also provide a means of distinguishing between hydrodynamic models and calculations which approach the low density ͑dilute gas͒ limit. Among the effects that can complicate the interpretation of elliptic flow measurements are azimuthal correlations that are unrelated to the reaction plane ͑nonflow correlations͒. Using data for Au ϩ Au collisions at ͱs NN ϭ130 GeV from … Show more

“…In this article, the flow harmonics are calculated with the Scalar Product (SP) method [34,35] in which the identified particle of interest (POI) and the charged reference particles (RP) are both selected within the acceptance of the TPC detector. This method is based on the calculation of the Q-vector from a sample of RP [45], according to…”

“…The results are obtained with the Scalar Product method described in section 4, and in detail in refs. [23,[34][35][36]. In this article, the identified hadron under study and the charged reference particles are obtained from different, non-overlapping pseudorapidity regions.…”

“…Results corresponding to |∆η| > 1 (denoted with v n {2, |∆η| > 1}) are obtained with the two-particle cumulant correlating tracks from opposite sides of the TPC acceptance, −0.8 < η < −0.5 and 0.5 < η < 0.8. Results corresponding to |∆η| > 2 (and reported as v n {2, |∆η| > 2}) are obtained with the scalar product method [46], correlating all tracks at mid-rapidity (|η| < 0.8) with the n-th harmonic Q-vector Q V0A n calculated from the azimuthal distribution of the energy deposition measured in the V0A detector [2,47] …”
