Elucidating the Neuroprotective Effect of Tecoma stans Leaf Extract in STZ-Induced Diabetic Neuropathy

Abstract: Background. Diabetes is considered one of the most encyclopedic metabolic disorders owing to an alarming rise in the number of patients, which is increasing at an exponential rate. With the current therapeutics, which only aims to provide symptomatic and momentary relief, the scientists are shifting gears to explore alternative therapies which not only can target diabetes but can also help in limiting the progression of diabetic complications including diabetic neuropathy (DN). Methods. Tecoma stans leaf metha… Show more

“…ISO causes lesions in animals similar to those caused by myocardial infarction by acting on adrenergic receptors. These receptors stimulate intracellular calcium influx, which raises cAMP levels and depletes high-energy phosphates [ 44 , 45 ]. These lesions have a morphological appearance comparable to myofibrillar degeneration, cardiac enlargement, myocyte destruction, and cardiomyopathy [ 46 ], including MI.…”

“…Nevertheless, it is essential to evaluate specific biomarkers of inflammation to elucidate this issue. Although it is known that the STZ model is used to experimentally emulate diabetes, in the search for new hypoglycemic agents, previous work has described the use of the model to evaluate the antioxidant activity of new molecules against OS associated with these chronic degenerative diseases, and its adverse sequelae, and how biological systems such as neuronal and renal are affected [36][37][38][39].…”

Understanding Tecoma stans leaf extract's neuroprotective role in STZ-induced DN and observing the disease's effectiveness and improvements as well as the drop in MDA levels 52 .…”
