This research began with a survey of historical and bibliographical treasures that permeate death and the spaces used for inhumations on the North Coast of Pernambuco, with a contextual focus on parish records drawn up in the Parish of Santos Cosme and Damião, between the last years of the 18th century and course of the 19th century. To this end, data related to burial place, sex, age at death and cause of death were presented for individuals from 215 death certificates. Research promoted through the “Life and Death Project in the Colonial Period at Engenho Jaguaribe in Pernambuco/Brazil” at the Federal University of Pernambuco has been responsible for identifying the life and death scenarios that make up the former agro-producing units of the then captaincy. The integrated study of destroyed and historical data, in this sense, provides a wide range of possibilities regarding understanding attitudes towards death, as well as the quality of life of the population during the Colonial Period and Brazilian Empire, in different spheres.
