Embodying Gender Nonconformity in ‘Girls’: Céline Sciamma’s Tomboy

Abstract: This article examines the representation of gender nonconformity in young girls in Céline Sciamma’s Tomboy (2011). The analysis of the film is set within the contexts of recent evolutions in perceptions of gender nonconformity in children and underpinned by corporeal phenomenology and its application within studies of transgender identities.
