Emergence of Natural Super-Disintegrnats in Oro-Dispersible Tablets: An Overview

Abstract: Orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) are an emerging trend in novel drug delivery system and have received ever-increasing demand during the last few decades. ODTs are solid unit dosage forms, which disintegrates or dissolves rapidly in the mouth without chewing and water. This type of property in dosage form can be attained by addition of different excipients, in which disintegrants are the key adjuvant. In recent years, several newer agents have been developed known as super-disintegrants. Super-disintegrant… Show more

“…Pectin is a complex heteropolysaccharide-based hydrophilic colloid. Due to its high swelling index and high solubility in biological fluids, mango peel pectin, on the other hand, cannot be used to anticipate the behavior of super disintegrants, but it can be used to manufacture oral dispersible tablets [12]. Mango peel pectin was discovered to be a good candidate for acting as a superdisintegrant by M Rishabha et al Although it is not as powerful as synthetic sodium starch glycolate, Because of its superior solubility and improved swelling index, it can be used to make rapid dissolving tablets [13].…”

“…Agar consists of polysaccharides such as agarose and agaropectin. Former one is the reason for gel strength, and high gel strength makes it as a disintegrant for the formulation of orally disintegrating tablets (8) .  Pectin from mango peel: Pectin, which is a hydrophilic colloid made up of a group of heteropolysaccharides.…”

“…The selection of excipient depended upon the optimized design of a fast disintegrating tablet. Superdisintegrants not only break the tablet into granules but also disrupt the powder particle from which the granules were formed 5 . The Superdisintegrants are classified as two categories according to their availability Synthetic Superdisintegrants: These agents are used in fast dispersible tablet because tablet shows excellent disintegration, wetting, and other parameters.…”
