“…This result is supportive of the assumed but infrequently tested hypothesis that behavior (specifically distress here) is a function of P-E congruence. Also, the lack of relationship between the two P-E fit measures (r = .02), supports the assumption that actual and perceived discrepancy are indicative of different underlying causal models of person-environment fit and that, as Huebner (1979) recommended, both should be used when examining P-E fit.…”

“…Our final assumptive set relates to the necessity of incorporating both perceived and objective assessments of the environment into the determination of person-environment fit. Several authors have noted the lack of congruence between perceived and objective measures of the environment and the need to include both in any project studying P-E fit (French et al, 1974;Huebner, 1979;Magnusson & Allen, 1983;Pervin, 1968;Walsh, 1973). This distinction between the perceived and objective environment is analogous to Muarry's (1938) beta and alpha press distinction.…”

“…Central to the concept of campus ecology is the notion of environmental assessment and design (Conyne and Clack, 1981;Huebner, 1979). The purpose of this chapter is to illustrate the application of an ecological paradigm to campus activities programs.…”
