BackgroundEmotion dysregulation (ED) is a transdiagnostic construct characterized by difficulties regulating intense emotions. People with bipolar disorder (BD) are more likely to show ED and use maladaptive emotion regulation strategies than adaptive ones. However, little is known about whether ED in BD is a trait or it is rather an epiphenomenon of mood symptoms.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis of the evidence across major literature databases reporting correlations between measures of emotion regulation (overall ED and different emotion regulation strategies) and measures of depressive and (hypo)manic symptoms in BD from inception until April 12th, 2022.ResultsFourteen studies involving 1371 individuals with BD were included in the qualitative synthesis, of which 11 reported quantitative information and were included in the meta‐analysis. ED and maladaptive strategies were significantly higher during periods with more severe mood symptoms, especially depressive ones, while adaptive strategies were lower.ConclusionED significantly correlates with BD symptomatology, and it mainly occurs during mood alterations. ED may be a target for specific psychotherapeutic and pharmacological treatments, according to precision psychiatry. However, further studies are needed, including patients with mood episodes and longitudinal design, to provide more robust evidence and explore the causal direction of the associations.

The aim of the current study is to examine the relationship between emotion regulation difficulties and depression by meta-analysis method. As a result of the literature review, a total of 4582 studies were identified and these studies were analysed according to their titles and abstracts. As a result of the evaluations, 37 full texts were included in the analysis. The findings obtained from the analyses were examined and it was determined that there was no significant difference in all subgroups regarding the relationship between emotion regulation difficulties and depression, and the effect size between the two variables did not change. As a result of the REM analysis, it was seen that the generalised effect size of the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and depression was moderate (0.52). Considering the scanning process within the scope of this study, it can be stated that there are too many measurement differences and deficiencies in reporting.

Hemşirelik bölümü öğrencileri üniversite eğitimleri sırasında sosyal, kişisel, maddi sorunlar yaşamakla beraber akademik ve klinik deneyimleri sırasında da çeşitli duygusal zorluklar yaşamaktadırlar. Araştırmanın amacı klinik deneyim yaşayan hemşirelik öğrencilerinin duygusal zorlanmalarının nedenleri ve duygu düzenleme güçlüklerinin çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmesidir. Materyal ve Metot: Araştırma bir devlet üniversitesinin hemşirelik bölümünün 2. 3. ve 4. sınıfında okuyan 342 öğrencisi ile tanımlayıcı tipte yürütülmüştür. Bulgular: Klinik deneyim sırasında öğrencilerin en fazla profesyonel hemşirelik becerisi eksikliğine dayalı yetersizlik hissi yaşadıklarında ve meslek grupları arasında profesyonel olmayan davranışları gözlemlemediklerinde duygusal zorlanma yaşadıkları saptanmıştır. Öğrencilerin fiziksel hastalık, ruhsal hastalık, psikolojik yardım alma, yaşamında önemli bir olayla karşılaşma durumları ve ailenin yaklaşımı ile Duygu Düzenleme Güçlüğü Ölçeği toplam puan ortalaması arasında anlamlı bir fark saptanmıştır (p<0,05). Sonuç: Öğrencilerin duygusal zorlanmalar yaşadıkları ve cinsiyet, fiziksel hastalık, ruhsal hastalık, psikolojik yardım alma, yaşamında önemli bir olayla karşılaşma durumları ve ailenin yaklaşımı gibi değişkenlerden etkilendiği belirlenmiştir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Duygu düzenleme, duygusal zorlanma, klinik deneyim, öğrenci hemşire ABSTRACT Objective: Nursing students experience various emotional difficulties during their academic and clinical experiences as well as social, personal and financial problems during their university education. The purpose of this study is to examine the causes of emotional difficulties and emotional difficulties of nursing students with clinical experience in terms of various variables. Materials and Methods:The study was conducted with descriptive features with 342 students studying in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of the nursing department of a public university. Results: It was determined that during the clinical experience, the students experienced emotional difficulties when they experienced the inadequacy based on the lack of professional nursing skills and they did not observe nonprofessional behaviors among professional groups. A significant difference was found between the students' physical illness, mental illness, psychological help, situations of encountering an important event in their life, and the family's approach and the total score average of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (p<0,05). Conclusion: It was determined that students experienced emotional difficulties and were affected by variables such as gender, physical illness, mental illness, psychological help, situations of encountering an important event in their life, and family approach.
