Empathy, mirror neurons and SYNC

Abstract: This article explains how people synchronize their thoughts through empathetic relationships and points out the elementary neuronal mechanisms orchestrating this process. The many dimensions of empathy are discussed, as is the manner by which empathy affects health and disorders. A case study of teaching children empathy, with positive results, is presented. Mirror neurons, the recently discovered mechanism underlying empathy, are characterized, followed by a theory of brain-to-brain coupling. This neuro-tunin… Show more

“…In particular, individuals with ASD present deficits in perceiving the motor action and the reasoning of an action [ 42 ]. It is hypothesised that MN are the substratum of human cognition and social understanding and that their operation facilitates the process of accessing and perceiving the emotional state of others as the result of one being able to reflect one’s own individual internal states and experiences [ 41 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 ].…”

“…In other words, this level involves a form of emotional reaction, intuitively (and possibly unknowingly) picking up on and emulating the emotion of another, for example, from facial cues (Hatfield et al, 2011;Eisenberg et al, 1991, p.65). This form of empathy can also be described as 'emotional empathy', 'affective empathy' or 'mirroring', the latter due to its triggering of mirror neutronsthe same regions in the brain will be activated in the person feeling empathy as in the individual who is the object of their attention (Shamay-Tsoory, 2011, p.18;Chrysikou and Thompson, 2016;Praszkier, 2014, Bråten, 2007.…”
