Emphysema

Abstract

This review of the medical literature on emphysema before and during the nineteenth century clearly demonstrates that the disease was highly prevalent before modern times. The alleged increase in the prevalence of emphysema during recent decades-on the hasis of official death certifications-is a statistical illusion.
