“…Peninsular Florida is underlain by a late Neoproterozoic-Cambrian (535-510 Ma) basement unconformably overlain by undeformed Ordovician-Devonian sedimentary rocks containing high-latitude trilobite and acritarch fauna of Gondwanan affinity, which have generally been correlated with the Bove basin of West Africa (Whittington and Hughes, 1974;Cramer and Diez, 1974;Dallmeyer, 1987;Dallmeyer et al, 1987). This assignment is consistent with paleomagnetic data (Opdyke et al, 1987).…”

“…A large component was derived from bedrock sources of Grenvillian age (1250-900 Ma) of the Oaxaquian subcontinent (Ortega-Gutiérrez et al, 1995) or possibly reworked from Ouachita rock assemblages. A potential source for Pan-African zircons exists in basement rocks of the Yucatan Peninsula (then positioned against the Texas and Louisiana coast (MolinaGarza et al, 1992), Coahuila (Lopez et al, 2001), southeast Texas, and Florida (Dallmeyer et al, 1987;Mueller et al, 1994), although they may also have been re cycled from Paleozoic strata of the Ouachita orogen. Detrital zircons in Triassic rocks in north-central and northeastern Mexico show some similarity with Triassic rocks of the Dockum Group.…”

“…Palaeogeographic reconstruction suggests that the closest Peri-Gondwanan terranes to the Marampa Group were Florida (Dallmeyer et al, 1987), Carolina and New Brunswick (Nance et al, 2008;. The southern portion of New Brunswick records detrital zircon ages of 2.6 Ga, 2.0-1.9 Ga, 1.8 Ga, 1.6-1.5 Ga, 1.3 Ga and 1.2-1.0 Ga (Keppie and Dostal, 1998) compatible with ages of the Amazonian Craton and mimicking detrital zircon populations in the Marampa Group.…”

“…Based on limited K-Ar data, Macfarlane (1981), Dallmeyer (1987) and Villeneuve (2008) regarded the Kasila Group as an Archaean supracrustal succession reworked during the Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian. However, the age data available on the Kasila Group are limited to K-Ar cooling ages on hornblende and biotite between 555 and 510 Ma (Table 5).…”
