“…Health teams must provide adequate care support, through practices based on scientific evidence (22,26,27), because families of premature infants with special health needs need to make available an important amount of their time for the care of the child, and they require support to readjust their daily life (19,28). Actions are needed for the insertion of parental caregivers into guidance and intervention programs to encourage the neurodevelopment capabilities of premature children, in the short-and long-term (12,18,22,29,30).…”

“…The conceptual framework of the FES was based on measuring the level of empowerment and the way empowerment expressed in a brief, self-administered questionnaire (Koren et al, 1992). The reliability and validity of the FES have been supported in children with developmental disabilities (Golubovi c et al, 2021), emotional disabilities (Koren et al, 1992), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (Singh et al, 1995) and chronic health conditions (Segers et al, 2019). The FES was completed by one parent or caregiver and includes the calculation of a total score (34 total items), a 12 item subscale of empowerment in the family (example item: I feel confident in my ability to help my child grow and develop), a 12 item subscale of empowerment in service systems (example item: I feel that I have a right to approve all services my child receives) and a 10 item subscale of empowerment in community/political environments (example item: I feel I can have a part in improving services for children in my community).…”
