Enabling Multiple Access in Visible Light Communication Using Liquid Crystal Displays: A Proof-of-Concept Study

Abstract: The directionality of optical signals provides an opportunity for efficient space reuse of optical links in visible light communication (VLC). Space reuse in VLC can enable multiple-access communication from multiple light emitting transmitters. Traditional VLC system design using photo-receptors requires at least one receiving photodetector element for each light emitter, thus constraining VLC to always require a light-emitter to light-receptor element pair. In this paper, we propose, design and evaluate a no… Show more

“…Although its use reduces certain aspects, sometimes the changes in the light of an LED are seen by the human eye when the luminescence exceeds the threshold of 200 Hz, a threshold considered safe [36]. Another aspect is that data are encoded and used to modulate the LED light at much higher frequencies than a camera could detect; thus there is the option of using the application that uses the front area where there is a photoreceptor [37][38][39].…”

“…To make dense nodes form a better network, the traditional RF communication is based on a fixed resource allocation by the orthogonal allocation of the time, frequency, and code domains of the system [ 4 ]. This makes users communicate independently on the resources and does not interfere with each other.…”

“…Efficient transmission is the key point to communication system design. Traditional RF communication is based on fixed resource allocation by orthogonal allocation of the time, frequency, and code domains of the system [11,12], which makes users communicate independently of the resources and do not interfere with each other. The latest wireless optical code division multiple access technology has also been studied and implemented [13,14].…”
