“…25 The organism is reported to produce urease, but it is unlikely that this species of Corynebacterium is a potent urease producer. If it were, one would expect there to be some struvite or calcium phosphate crystal formation similar to that often reported with C urealyticum infections in humans, 26 dogs, and cats. 27 To the authors' knowledge, the clinical features and characteristics of C renale infections in guinea pigs have not been described in the veterinary literature.…”

“…Treatment is based on the synergistic effect of resection of the encrustations, antibiotics and acidification. Although acidifying agents were not administered in our cases, there is evidence in the literature supporting their use as an adjunctive measure [6]. The outcome is generally favorable if diagnosis is made promptly.…”

“…Prolonged vesical and ureteral catheterizations are considered the most important risk factors for the development of EC and EP, respectively [5, 6]. These procedures not only introduce C. urealyticum or other urea–splitting microorganisms into the urinary tract, but may also produce a suitable ground, such as urothelial trauma, increasing the risk for a simple urinary tract infection to be transformed into the more serious EC or EP.…”

La presencia de un pH alcalino en la orina con cristales de fosfato amó nico magné sico en el sedimento y los cultivos positivos para gé rmenes desdobladores de urea son característicos 3,5 .…”
