Endobronchial metastasis from prostate cancer

Abstract: We report a case of endobronchial metastasis from prostate adenocarcinoma. A patient with a history of prostate cancer under complete androgen blockade presented to the respiratory department complaining of dyspnea and dry coughing. Flexible bronchoscopy showed multiple polypoid lesions in the tracheobronchial tree and the immunohistochemical studies on the biopsy specimen determined the diagnosis. The patient was treated with paclitaxel, estramustine phosphate and carboplatine, and experienced symptoms suppre… Show more

“…In addition, bronchial metastases are rarely found during post-treatment follow-up. Four cases of bronchial metastasis recurrence have been reported after a long interval of observation following treatment [[9], [10], [11], [12]]. However, a search of the literature identified no other diagnosed recurrences after a 20-year follow-up, as in our patient.…”

“…role of resection of pulmonary metastases from prostate cancer There are two radiological patterns of pulmonary metastases: multinodular (likely due to hematologic spread), [9][10][11] and a diffuse interstitial pattern 1,10,13-21 representative of lymphatic spread. Other isolated intrathoracic manifestations of metastatic prostate cancer include endobronchial metastasis 22 and malignant pleural effusions. [23][24][25] Treatment of both low burden (2 nodules) and more disseminated pulmonary metastases with metastasectomy and hormonal therapy was successful in 3 case reports.…”
