“…The secretion of adrenal androgens has a distinct pattern from that of cortisol during fetal development, adrenarche and aging (24). Dissociation between plasma adrenal androgens (decreased) and cortisol (increased) has been reported in Cushing's disease (29), in critical and chronic illness (36 -38), and even in functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (39).
