Extrahepatic abscesses have been reported to occur in 7-12% (18,19,41) of KLA cases, and areas that may be involved include the lung (26,28), pleura (35), kidney (41), prostate (28,37), meninges (7,35), epidural space (41), inner ear (26), brain (18,27), bone (18), skin (43), soft tissue (18,31), and spleen (19), although the most commonly reported organ is the eye (37).
