For example, findings from a study by Effron, Cameron, and Monin (2009) suggested that endorsing Obama just before the 2008 election licensed individuals to make ambiguously racist statements; however, this effect held only for participants with higher scores on the Modern Racism Scale (MRS; McConahay, Hardee, & Batts, 1981), a measure of prejudice.
