Endoscopic simple prostatectomy

Abstract: IntroductionMany options exist for the surgical treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), laser surgery, and open adenomectomy. Recently, endoscopic techniques have been used in the treatment of BPH.Material and methodsWe reviewed clinical studies in PubMed describing minimally invasive endoscopic procedures for the treatment of BPH.ResultsLaparoscopic adenomectomy (LA) and robotic–assisted simple prosta… Show more

“…While no studies exist to establish the learning curve for RSP, 5-10 cases are estimated for a surrogate -laparoscopic simple prostatectomy after familiarity with laparoscopic procedures. 17 The learning curve for laparoscopic and robotic radical prostatectomy is reported to be 350 and 100 cases respectively. 18…”

“…Laparoscopic adenomectomy (LA) and robotic-assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) were introduced in the early 2000s, and the feasibility and safety of these techniques have been well documented (13)(14)(15). However, the application of the endoscopic approach for the simple prostatectomy (SP) still needs good skills and advanced instruments.…”

“…In vergelijking met de literatuur over de open operatietechniek is in onze serie het perioperatieve bloedverlies minder (555 vs. 179 ml) en de opname korter (7,4 vs. 6,8 dagen), terwijl de postoperatieve functionele resultaten vergelijkbaar zijn [23,24]. De afname in bloedverlies is gerelateerd aan de minimaal invasieve benadering en doordat de techniek gaandeweg verder is verfijnd.…”
