Endoscopic Stricturotomy for Patients With Postoperative Benign Anastomotic Stricture for Colorectal Cancer

Abstract: BACKGROUND:Postoperative benign anastomotic stricture is associated with colorectal anastomosis following surgery for colorectal cancer. Endoscopic stricturotomy is a novel technique that has been demonstrated to be safe and effective for the treatment of colorectal anastomotic stricture in several case reports and series. OBJECTIVE:We designed this study to investigate the efficacy of endoscopic stricturotomy for postoperative benign anastomotic stricture in patients for colorectal cancer. The primary outcome… Show more

“…A previous case series indicated its safety and effectiveness 1 . Case reports have described colorectal anastomosis recanalization through techniques such as stricturotomy 2 or in combination with endoscopic ultrasound 3 . Nevertheless, when access to both sides of the obstructed anastomosis is possible, the use of magnets emerges as a technically easier alternative.…”

“…Extensive thermal therapy to treat bleeding likely played a role in the degree of scar formation in this case. Endoscopic stricturotomy has been utilized in the management of Crohn's and anastomotic strictures with success [2,3]. To our knowledge, there are no published data on the management of strictures following endoscopic resection.…”
