“…Endoscopic ultrasound findings have been demonstrated to correlate well with visual appearances, and there is some suggestion that endoscopic ultrasound may be useful in evaluating the completeness of laser ablation treatment of the stomach 15 . There is also evidence that the endoscopic ultrasound appearance of a thickened antral wall with spongy mucosa and submucosa may aid in distinguishing between gastric antral vascular ectasia and portal hypertensive gastropathy, where the gastric wall is diffusely thickened with evidence of dilated veins 16 …”

“…In a small case series, EUS was used to diagnose watermelon stomach in patients with portal hyper− tension. EUS allowed precise documentation and localization of ectatic intramural vessels in the mucosa and submucosa, which appeared as distinct echo−poor vascular structures in the sub− mucosa and the mucosa [30].…”

“…EUS-Doppler can also substantiate diagnosis of portal gastropathy, showing diffuse thickening of the gastric wall with dilated paragastric veins 6 95 , thereby distinguishing it from watermelon stomach , which is characterized by focal swelling and spongy appearance in mucosa and submucosa 96 97 . It is also valuable in differential diagnosis of giant gastric folds 98 99 , distinguishing benign causes, such as gastric varices, from malignant causes.…”
