Abstract: Background: The hypothesis is that a hypoxic-hyperoxic preconditioning (HHP) is associated with a protective effect on myocardial function by reducing endothelial damage and a beneficial effect on postoperative outcome in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
