Endovascular coil embolization of a complex aortic arch pseudoaneurysm following arch stenting

Abstract: Pseudoaneurysm formation is a life‐threatening complication of thoracic aortic stenting due to the high risk of rupture. When located in the aortic arch, anatomic features may pose difficulties in choosing the optimal treatment strategy. Here, we describe the first poststenting aortic arch pseudoaneurysm treated by endovascular coil embolization. This approach, which we performed in a multidisciplinary setting, may be a feasible alternative in patients not considered suitable for open repair or stent‐grafting.… Show more

“…A similar case of an 11‐month‐old infant with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and coronary steal due to aortic regurgitation was reported by El‐Said et al In this case, the left ventricular cavity was occluded in the cath lab by sequential packing with six detachable Azur R coils (Terumo, Tokyo). Successful occlusion of a dissecting aneurysm in a diverticulum of Kommerell using Ruby coils was reported by Yu et al, while Meijs et al described embolization of a 20 mm × 14 mm aortic pseudoaneurysm . The pseudoaneurysm had developed following high‐pressure redilatation of a noncovered stent which was implanted for treatment of recoarctation.…”

“…However, data from cases about the treatment of other vascular pseudoaneurysms (ie, cerebral post-traumatic or aortic arch) and from few other patients with pseudoaneurysm of the kidney transplant artery have confirmed the efficacy of coil embolization. 7,13,15,16 Our patient had an anastomotic pseudoaneurysm leading to renal and external iliac artery stenosis. Thus, she suddenly developed acute renal failure.…”
