Endovascular Repair of Renal Artery Aneurysm in a Transplanted Kidney 30

Abstract: We present a case of a 35-year-old male patient who underwent live donor kidney transplantation at our unit in 2003. While working overseas, he had deterioration in his kidney function and was treated conservatively over three years duration including acquirement of a renal biopsy. Upon presentation to our unit in June 2015, an ultrasound and computed tomography angiogram demonstrated a huge aneurysm arising from his upper renal artery. His lower renal artery was patent and normal. The aneurysm was treated by … Show more

“…A multidisciplinary meeting was held with a radiologist, vascular surgeon and urologist and discussed treatment options for TRAA including endovascular stenting, percutaneous thrombin injection and surgical repair. Endovascular stenting is often used in renal artery pseudoaneurysm and it requires adequate proximal and distal landing zone [3]. Endovascular approach was excluded due to the short take off of the renal artery and lack of proper landing zone (Fig.…”

“…Open surgical repair and endovascular repair are currently reported treatment options for managing extra-renal false aneurysms with associated stenosis of the allograft in the iliac artery. Therefore, many minimally invasive procedures, such as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stent placement, are valid options for treatment and provide high technical success, as it is a safe and less invasive modality with a shorter length of hospital stay [16].…”
