“…Heparin is the standard medication during vascular intervention, however, the optimal heparin dose is not clear [13]. Although the heparin dosage is not routinely mentioned in the WEB studies, a dose of 5000 IU bolus heparin is reported to be administered in some of the papers [14][15][16]. The bolus heparin dose was 7500 IU in our study and this relatively high heparin dose did not cause bleeding in any of the patients.…”

“…We classified the angiographic results on the basis of a 5-point scale as suggested by Caroff et al 12 This, in contrast to a 3-point scale, allows differentiation between a typical aneurysm remnant, which might require retreatment in the future, and an opacification inside the mesh of the WEB, which might result in a contemporary intra-aneurysmal thrombosis without additional treatment. 26 Mine et al, 27 in their recently published series of 49 aneurysms treated with the WEB device, demonstrated that a small proximal recess related to the device should not be considered a remnant and remains stable with time. According to these findings, the rate of complete aneurysm occlusion at 3 and 12 months is 60.2% (47/78) and 59.2% (29/49), respectively, in our series.…”

“…The WEB (Sequent Medical, Aliso Viejo, CA, USA) is a nitinol-based braided-wire intravascular device designed to be used for treating wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms [ 32 ]. It can be introduced into intracranial aneurysms, where it spans the aneurysmal neck to disrupt inflow and reduce intra-saccular flow; thereby, resulting in thrombosis.…”

“…Numerous clinical studies have been designed to investigate the safety and efficacy of the WEB in the treatment of intracranial wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms [ 23 , 28 , 32 - 35 ]. The technical success rate ranged from 92.9% to 98.7%, adequate occlusion at 1-year ranged from 80% to 82%, and procedural morbidity ranged from 1.8% to 2.7%, with no mortalities reported [ 23 , 28 , 32 , 33 , 35 ].…”
