Endovenous ablation and surgery in great saphenous vein reflux: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials protocol

Abstract: IntroductionEndovenous ablations are the new standard procedures for treatment of great saphenous vein reflux including endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), radio frequency ablation (RFA), endovenous steam ablation (EVSA), mechanochemical ablation (MOCA), cyanoacrylate injection and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS). EVLA and RFA have demonstrated similar anatomical success for short-term outcome, but results are controversial for longer term (≥5 years). Additional evidences from randomised controlled t… Show more

“…MEDLINE and Scopus were searched from 2011 to March 2020. Search terms were based on patients and interventions 17 . Two reviewers independently selected studies according to predefined inclusion criteria: RCTs of GSV reflux; comparison of defined interventions as outlined below; and reporting any of the primary or secondary outcomes of interest.…”

“…The great saphenous vein (GSV) is the most common site of venous reflux, and the standard treatment is ablation of this vein. Important outcomes after GSV ablation are anatomical occlusion, abolishment of reflux in the treated vein, good function, and good quality of life for treated patients (5) . Treatment of varicose veins and spider veins is not just for cosmetic reasons.…”
