We report numerical simulations of large-amplitude oscillations of a trapped vortex line under a strong ac magnetic field H(t) = H sin ωt parallel to the surface. The power dissipated by an oscillating vortex segment driven by the surface ac Meissner currents was calculated by taking into account the nonlinear vortex line tension, vortex mass and a nonlinear Larkin-Ovchinnikov (LO) viscous drag coefficient η(v). We show that the LO decrease of η(v) with the vortex velocity v can radically change the field dependence of the surface resistance Ri(H) caused by trapped vortices. At low frequencies Ri(H) exhibits a conventional increases with H, but as ω increases, the surface resistance becomes a nonmonotonic function of H which decreases with H at higher fields. The effects of frequency, pin spacing and the mean free path li on the field dependence of Ri(H) were calculated. It is shown that, as the surface gets dirtier and li decreases, the anomalous drop of Ri(H) with H shifts to lower fields which can be much smaller than the lower critical magnetic field. Our numerical simulations also show that the LO decrease of η(v) with v can cause a vortex bending instability at high field amplitudes and frequencies, giving rise to the formation of dynamic kinks along the vortex. Measurements of Ri(H) caused by sparse vortices trapped perpendicular to the surface can offer opportunities to investigate an extreme nonlinear dynamics of vortices driven by strong current densities up to the depairing limit at low temperatures. The behavior of Ri(H) which can be tuned by varying the rf frequency or concentration of nonmagnetic impurities is not masked by strong heating effects characteristic of dc or pulse transport measurements. arXiv:2001.08836v1 [cond-mat.supr-con]

During the last decade, detection and manipulation of single vortex lines in bulk superconductors have been achieved experimentally. Electrodynamic response of pinned vortices in the high-frequency range is instrumental in studying specific aspects of their behavior. The present paper reviews the state of the art in studies of the oscillations of a single Abrikosov vortex in type II superconductors. The equations for free and forced oscillations of a single elastic vortex line are analyzed taking into account different forces affecting its motion: pinning, elasticity, viscosity and the Lorenz force. The equations also account for the inertial properties of a vortex due to various mechanisms of massiveness. The nature and magnitude of the vortex effective mass caused by some of the mechanisms are discussed in the paper. The roles of each force and inertia in the free oscillation spectrum are thoroughly analyzed. For the De Gennes and Matricon mode (at about a megahertz) with parabolic dispersion and the pinning force taken into account, there is an activation threshold. Taking into account the effective vortex mass in the equation of motion leads to the occurrence of a high-frequency mode (at about a terahertz) in the oscillation spectrum which is also of the activation nature. Estimations of the characteristic frequencies for these modes are given for two common superconductors, NbTi and anisotropic YBaCuO. The paper also presents the features of the resonant behavior of an elastic massive vortex line arising under an external uniform harmonic driving force that decays into the bulk of the sample, taking into account all the above forces. The frequency and temperature dependences of the energy absorption by a vortex line are analyzed. Maximum absorption in the low-frequency mode corresponds to the threshold frequency, while that in the high-frequency mode corresponds to the vortex cyclotron frequency. Vortex manipulation experiments and vortex dynamics simulation are discussed.

The trajectories of motion of an isolated Abrikosov vortex in the anisotropic YBa2Cu3O7 superconductor under the influence of an external periodic force, damping into the sample, were constructed and analysed, taking into account the inert properties of the vortex and the forces acting on it: pinning, Lorentz, elasticity and viscosity. The hierarchy of the influence of various forces in a wide frequency range (∼1 THz) of the driving force on the shape and size of the trajectory is established. The calculated energy absorption by the vortex, as a function of frequency, taking into account the effective mass of the vortex, has resonant peaks: one at low frequency, associated with the de Gennes and Matricon mode, and the second at high frequency. The differences, manifested in vortex-induced oscillations for different field orientations in YBa2Cu3O7 and for the isotropic low-temperature superconductor NbTi, are analysed.
