As the economy continues to advance, and the populace's demand for material well-being grows, urban areas are witnessing an increasing need for electricity supply. Substations, playing a pivotal role in the power industry, are proliferating in terms of both quantity and construction scale. Reinforced concrete substation buildings are a common infrastructure that provides a suitable physical environment for the operation of power equipment. A thorough examination and analysis conducted through on-site investigations have unveiled deficiencies in the low-carbon design and operation of substation buildings, resulting in energy wastage and extra carbon emissions. Consequently, this study endeavors to introduce a method for calculating carbon emissions during the operational phase of reinforced concrete structure substations. It also presents corresponding strategies for low-carbon design and operation. These strategies encompass low-carbon design principles for the building envelope structure, the utilization of renewable energy, low-carbon design considerations for artificial lighting, and the implementation of intelligent environmental control systems. The strategies proposed in this research provide valuable ideas for making the power and construction industries more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.

Prefabricated facade panels are building components that evolve with technology and offer a wide range of material possibilities. These panels can be constructed using wood, metal, concrete, or terracotta-based materials and are designed based on three concepts: massive, sandwich, and frame. In recent years, as sustainable design takes the spotlight, it is crucial to consider not only energy consumption and carbon emissions from heating and cooling but also the carbon emissions associated with the materials used in construction. This study aims to analyze prefabricated facade panels with wooden structures in terms of operational and embodied energy, providing guidance to designers in selecting suitable concepts. Calculations were conducted on a selected sample building. Compared to the traditional Baghdadi wall, the sandwich panel scenario with PUR insulation material resulted in energy savings of 53.21 percent. The massive CLT panel, which lacks insulation material or cladding, showed the lowest energy gain at 15.91 percent. Considering the overall emissions in the analysis, it has been determined that embodied carbon emissions have a greater impact than operational carbon emissions. Therefore, it is essential to emphasize the significant role of material selection for prefabricated facade panels in reducing carbon emissions.

Climate change is known as a serious threat to the human species, and its significance should be considered in building design. This study aims to investigate the relationship between energy consumption and CO2 emission in Iran during the years 2018–2019 using artificial neural networks (ANNs) and regression methods. The input data were gathered and optimized by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Lighting, equipment load rate, wall U-value, roof U-value and people density were deliberated as effective parameters. Afterwards, the ANN was created, trained and tested by the radial basis function (RBF) algorithm; also, the data were evaluated based on statistical analysis in SPSS software. The results demonstrated R2 = 0.99 and the 45-degree line for the predicted value. Energy consumption and CO2 were reduced to 35% and 73.21%, respectively. Furthermore, CO2 emissions and energy consumption had an inverse relationship with infiltration rates (−0.201) and (−0.098). Furthermore, CO2 emission and energy consumption had a linear relation in Iran with the equation of y = 1.63x + 0.52. Moreover, based on ANOVA test, R2 linear was 0.985 and R = 0.993, illustrating significant accuracy. Architects and designers could enjoy these findings as guidelines for renovation and designing purposes so as to alleviate the negative environmental impacts of construction.
