Energy and Daylighting Evaluation of Integrated Semitransparent Photovoltaic Windows with Internal Light Shelves in Open‐Office Buildings

Abstract: In modern architecture, highly glazed commercial buildings account for considerable amount of energy, specifically in cold and hot climates because of heating, cooling, and lighting energy load demand. Abatement of this high building energy is possible by employing semitransparent photovoltaic (STPV) window which has triple point advantages as they control the admitted solar gain and daylight and generates benign electricity. Integration of internal light shelves (ILS) to this STPV window assists in controllin… Show more

“…PV windows can also be known as building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) windows as they replaced the traditional building envelops [18][19][20]. BIPV windows have triple point advantages as they generate onsite power, control admitted solar heat and light, and aesthetic [21]. Energy renovation with BIPV is promising for urban building context [22].…”

“…The amount of radiation received on earth is different over different regions in terms of geographic location, climatic conditions, and seasonal basics. Solar energy is converted into electrical energy by photovoltaic circuits [5][6][7]. The generated power is directly dependent on solar irradiance, with the photovoltaic (PV) module array of PV cells interconnected to increase the generated power.…”
