Energy and environmental retrofitting of the university building of Orthopaedic and Traumatological Clinic within Sapienza Città Universitaria

Abstract: To cope with climate change energy sustainability is considered the key target EU Countries set to achieve by 2020. Existing energy users such as building stock require huge efforts to be aligned to this goal. This is the case of the University of Rome “La Sapienza” campus since it was built even before first regulations on energy saving, i.e. Italian Law 10/91. Current energy classification assigns to them the energy efficiency class G, far from class A, the energy label to be achieved by 2020.\ud \ud The pur… Show more

“…From a technical point of view, the questionnaire is created in the Excel environment implementing macros and functions written in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) for a real-time simulation of energy consumptions based on the entered inputs. It is noteworthy how simulations are performed by means of an in-house developed code [50], which was used in other works [51][52][53] and was validated by comparison with the outcomes deriving from leading software such as TRNSYS and EnergyPlus.…”

“…Real-time simulation of energy consumptions came from entered inputs. The in-house code adopted in previous studies [39][40][41] was validated by means of TRNSYS and EnergyPlus results comparison. The Heat Balance Method (HBM) was the base of the model implemented with a conduction finite difference (CondFD) solution algorithm [42].…”

“…Different research approaches (Terrados et al, 2009) (Mourmouris, & Potolias, 2013) (Mancini et al, 2017). Furthermore similar approaches have been selected for assessing the built environment energy use (Torabi Moghadam et al, 2018) (Carbonara et al, 2015), the energy renovation rate of private building stock (Caputo & Pasetti, 2017), the LEED-ND sustainability (Pedro et al, 2018), the residential water demand (Jayarathna et al, 2017) and other sustainability indicators applied on specific case study areas (Jing et al, 2018) (Astiaso Garcia et al, 2014.…”
