Energy and system-size dependence of two- and four-particlev2measurements in heavy-ion collisions atsNN=62.4and 200

Abstract: We present STAR measurements of azimuthal anisotropy by means of the two-and four-particle cumulants v 2 (v 2 {2} and v 2 {4}) for Au + Au and Cu + Cu collisions at center-of-mass energies √ s NN = 62.4 and 200 GeV. The difference between v 2 {2} 2 and v 2 {4} 2 is related to v 2 fluctuations (σ v 2 ) and nonflow (δ 2 ). We present an upper limit to σ v 2 /v 2 . Following the assumption that eccentricity fluctuations σ ε dominate v 2 fluctuations σv 2 v 2 ≈ σε ε we deduce the nonflow implied for several models… Show more

“…A similar observation is reported by the CMS Collaboration [16]. The trend for R 2 in Pb-Pb is similar to observations for Au-Au √ s NN = 200 GeV collisions [38,42]. The value of R 2 in midcentral (midmultiplicity) Pb-Pb collisions (∼0.35) is between the STAR and PHOBOS results for similar centralities.…”

“…Assuming the number of sources are highly correlated with the number of participants, the difference between very high multiplicity p-Pb and Pb-Pb can be explained by the larger number of sources in the latter. Finally, these results at the LHC can be compared to those from the STAR Collaboration [38,39]. In Au-Au √ s NN = 200 GeV collisions, c 2 {4} also approaches zero and may become positive which prevented the extraction of v 2 {4} in central collisions, while for U-U √ s NN = 193 GeV collisions, c 2 {4} always remains negative.…”

“…It is known that the magnitude of anisotropic flow, being approximately proportional to the initial-state spatial anisotropy [20], fluctuates from collision to collision even for fixed centrality [6,[21][22][23][24], and that its probability distribution function (p.d.f.) P (v n ) is to a first approximation Bessel-Gaussian [1,25], i.e.…”
