Energy contributions of relativistic two-body operators

Abstract

Analytical formulae for the contribution of two-particle Breit-Pauli operators to the total energy of the atom are derived. The (partial) cancellation between the two-body Darwin and the spin-spin-contact terms is discussed, yielding a simple general result. SL-coupled matrix elements required to find projections of the operators on an orthogonal basis are given.
