Energy cost of entanglement extraction in complex quantum systems

Abstract: What is the energy cost of extracting entanglement from complex quantum systems? Operationally, we may wish to actually extract entanglement. Conceptually, we may wish to physically understand the entanglement distribution as a function of energy. This is important, especially for quantum field theory vacua, which are extremely entangled. Here we build a theory to understand the energy cost of entanglement extraction. First, we consider a toy model, and then we define the entanglement temperature, relating ene… Show more

“…Entanglement harvesting has been shown to be sensitive to accelerations [13], time dependence of the interaction and the number of spacetime dimensions [14], spacetime curvature [15][16][17][18], spacetime topology [19], boundary conditions [20,21], as well as indefinite causal ordering [22][23][24]. Entanglement harvesting has also been investigated in more practical, experimental settings [25][26][27][28][29][30][31]. In such studies, it is common to employ a form of particle-detector model such as the Unruh-DeWitt (UDW) model [32,33], which is a simplified scalar model derived from realistic light-matter interaction.…”

“…This kind of simultaneous restrictions on locality and thermodynamics has also been considered in other previous works, see for example Refs. [71][72][73][74][75]. The multi-resource theory is obtained by considering two single-resource theories, the one of entanglement and the one of energy.…”

“…Among these resources, energy is one of the most important with regard to the evaluation of the generation cost. Recently, some studies dealt with the energy cost of quantum operations [20], including the generation of correlations [21] and entanglement [19,[22][23][24]. In particular, in Ref.…”
