Energy, Economy, and Environment: A Worldwide Research Update

Abstract: This paper has reviewed the international research on the interactions between the Economy, Energy, and Environment (3E) in the 21st century. For this purpose, a bibliometric and cluster analysis by fractional accounting has been carried out based on the two most important databases: Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus. The research found and studied 2230 documents from the WoS Core Collection and 3,149 from Scopus. The results show a continuous increase in the number of articles that were published and citations … Show more

“…These energy alternatives have an inexhaustible structure because they take their resources from nature. On the other hand, these alternative energy sources have no negative impact on the environment [46]. Because of these issues, BRICS countries should turn to renewable energy investments.…”

“…Air pollution that is caused by liquid road fuel transport occurs at a low level, almost directly on the ground, which is more harmful to people than emissions from other sources, e.g., from the energy sector. Air pollution with particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) is an important problem for metropolises and urban-industrial agglomerations both in Europe and Poland [24][25][26]. The EU's long-term goals are to achieve air quality without unduly affecting quality of life and human health [27].…”

“…There are studies as well about the global transition to low-carbon electricity systems based on research hot spots and trends analysis for the last three decades [18]. Other bibliometric studies have been focused on the relationship between energy, economy and environment, based on different subject areas and by performing a clustering study to analyze the evolution of most common keywords along two decades to conclude those which were the research trends and hot topics in the field area [19]. Other works analyzed thermal energy storage perspectives based on their most referenced publications [20] and detected the research trends [20]; others studied the relevance of distributed cogeneration of power and heat within an energy management strategy [21] or studied the research contribution of a particular country in wind energy research [22].…”
