Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings: A Step toward the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Abstract: Within the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the Agenda 2030, this article aims to explain and understand the usefulness of energy audits and their potential to reveal energy efficiency opportunities in a small public building located in northwestern Mexico. The methodological structure was adopted from the Cleaner Production–Energy Efficiency Manual published by the United Nations Program for the Environment. “…In addition, there are many structures that help business to achieve their sustainability goals by providing action plans, as many international organisations require SMEs to have a sustainability report (Shields and Shelleman, 2015), and there are drawbacks if companies do not impose sustainability goals such as those involving waste and pollution (Geraldo Cardoso de et al ., 2022). Even the UN's SDGs have imposed energy audits to measure companies' level of efficiency (Munguia et al. , 2020).…”

“…The main manifestation is that the coercive force of energy laws is not strong; specifically, the legal provisions are not detailed enough, the legal rank is low, the applicability is poor and the enforcement is not high [6,7]. To a certain extent, this has affected the development of China's energy industry, the update of energy technology, the improvement of energy efficiency, the development and utilisation of new energy, and the development of environmental protection in the energy field [8]. At the same time, it is important to take notice of the fact that there are not many domestic scholars engaged in research in this field, and the available academic literature is relatively small and unsystematic.…”
