Energy Efficiency Policy in the United States. Overview of Trends at Different Levels of Government

Abstract: This report catalogs by sector-buildings, transportation, industrial, and power-energy efficiency policies at the federal, state, and local levels, and identifies some prominent policy trends. Four key findings emerged from this report: 1) leadership on energy efficiency is necessary-and is found-at each level of government; 2) there is no widely accepted methodology for evaluating energy efficiency policies; 3) coordination among the three levels of government-and across sectors-is increasingly important, and… Show more

“…This incentive was continued with the cooperation and supervision of the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA 3 ) for enhancing the efficiency standards and reducing the fuel consumption. As a result of the exertion of these policies, the United States could considerably reduce its oil consumption in the course of the universal financial crisis (Doris et al ., 2009, p. 26). Furthermore, in 2012, President Obama updated the regulations inserted in the law on the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE 4 ) and adopted new standards for increasing energy efficiency in the United States.…”
