Abstract: Background Photosynthetic diazotrophs expressing iron-only (Fe-only) nitrogenase can be developed into a promising biofertilizer, as it can accomplish the energy-intensive process of nitrogen fixation by light energy and is independent on the molybdenum availability in the soil.
