“…The sulfate had a simple chemical structure and consisted of tetrahedral sulfate groups whose O atoms were coordinated with interstitial cations [49]. A very good correlation can be observed between our measured data and the literature [48][49][50][51]: the four modes of vibration of sulfate tetrahedral oxyanion occur at 992-993.2 (ν 1-symmetric stretching), 451-466.6 (ν 2-symmetric bending), 1102.1-1178 (ν 3-antisymmetric stretching), and 620-647.2 (ν 4-antisymmetric bending). For our samples, the Raman spectra corresponded to Na 2 SO 4 , with spectral signature features showing a strong peak at 992 cm −1 for ν 1 , which in turn corresponded to the symmetric stretches of the S-O 4 tetrahedron.…”

“…Whilst we acknowledge that historical reports and archaeological evidence about frontier conflict events can never reveal a comprehensive picture and in fact may fail to generate significant new data, we also argue that frontier killings and massacres should not be allowed to "transcend history"and that each and every event should be interrogated subject to the wishes of Aboriginal traditional owners. The research presented in this article is just one aspect of a broader project to interrogate the colonial frontier in SA's Riverland region (see also Burke et al, 2016;Roberts et al, 2018;Roberts et al, 2020b).…”
