Enhanced Direct Reactive Power Control-Based Multi-Level Inverter for DFIG Wind System under Variable Speeds

Abstract: A novel direct reactive power control strategy based on the three-level inverter topology (DRPC-3N) is proposed for a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind power plant system. The robustness against parametric variations and control performances of the presented methodology are analyzed under random wind speeds, taking into account the effect of the heating of the windings as well as the saturation of the magnetic circuit. The performance indices include obtaining a sinusoidal AC-generated current w… Show more

“…Determining the PID controller parameters can be done by different methods, of which Ziegler-Nichols [8] is a very effective method when the mathematical model is not required to be known [9][10][11]. The combined Ziegler-Nichols and trial and error methods have refined the accuracy of the controller parameters [12][13][14][15]. Pengpraderm et al (2017) [15] designed a PI controller to excite the rotor of the synchronous motor to track the power factor set point.…”

“…The control system for an induction machine is more complicated because it is a multivariable, nonlinear, and highly linked system. Techniques like voltage-field-oriented control and power-torque direct control, which use a linear conventional controller like the proportional-integralpredictive (PID) controller, have not always achieved flawless results (Tamalouzt et al, 2021).…”

“…The aim is to study the stability of the power system under the penetration of the DFIG-based wind farms. Tamalouzt et al [7], a method based on the three-level inverter topology and using a direct reactive power control is proposed for a (DFIG)-based wind power plant system. Sahri et al [8] introduce a direct power control strategy based on machine learning to overcome the difficulties caused by the DFIG and local reactive power variations from the grid.…”
